Equally, due to lack of resources, 9-1-1 is seeking volunteers from the community to help with a number of areas including:

·         Volunteer telecommunicators - covering shifts left open due to necessary breaks, sickness, holidays or other leave

·         Translators assigned to liaise with visitors and residents whose first language may not be English and who may need to relate a matter with great discretion and sensitivity

·         Data entry and collection

·         Web support and technical support to help with maintaining the website and other electronic platforms of the 9-1-1 system

Advocates – persons in the community appraised of the functioning of the 911 system to help inform family, friends, colleagues and neighbours of how the system works, why it is important to know one’s address and how to become involved in supporting 9-1-1.
